Dear Musicians,

I am sorry, truly sorry for the state of our industry. At one of my favorite Downtown coffee shops, Lost Souls , a little while ago I came across this “job” posting.. (sorry the picture quality sucks – I am still sitting on my gen 1 iPhone waiting for the Nexus One to arrive on a decent network).  There is a bit of a translation at the end of the article.

In response to the internet / media / recording execs using your influence and contacts to take the money from your fans pockets and use it to make new devices to take the skins off your backs a clever entrepreneur has seemingly found a solution to your woes.

SELL WEIGHT LOSS TO SUPPORT YOUR MUSIC!!!

Really?!?  I mean WTF REALLY?!?

As if it isn’t hard enough to get your friends / fans / everyone else to show up to see your set on a Thursday (hopefully) night now some guy thinks your road to gold can be paved with the pounds of your faithful followers.

Sadly I am sure that this situation is far from unique – they question is how many more are out there and how can we as a music community prevent them from spreading / encourage true opportunities?

To that effect we at MU will be starting a COMMUNITY WATCH program so to speak.  When YOU as the community see these things online / offline / in lucid nightmares send them along to us and we will work to investigate / highlight / expose them.

On the same note if you see / know of great things / people / places that are moving the trenches of music forward, send them along to us so we can highlight the positive examples around us.
